Doing The Best We Can With What We Have

Doing The Best We Can With What We Have

Mission Statement

With the expanded use of social media today, it is easy to look at others' lives and wish you were them. There are a handful of fortunate individuals who get to hunt and fish for a living. There are others who's circumstances allow them to spend more time in the outdoors than most. The truth is.. the majority of us are average people. Average men and women who do the best we can with what we have. For us, every hunt is public land. Every hunt is DIY. We will most likely never own a Yeti, our Igloos will have to do. Never look down range through the lens of a Swarovski or wear anything adorned with the Sitka logo. We will never have a hunting magazine, never be the stars of our own hunting show, become prostaff members, or receive free gear. We have a limited number of days off each year, and limited funds to spend. This does not however crush our spirit or curb our enthusiasm for the great outdoors. We will take every opportunity we get to enjoy the Streams, Lakes and Mountains.

We do not criticize those more fortunate than us. Our hope is to appeal to hunters just like us. Those with limited time, limited assets, limited resources, marginal gear, yet, 100% passion.

Hunting Guide or Hunting Tried?

Our first trip to the lake with a client along side got me thinking.... when it came time for Ray to chose a local guide, what made him decide on SLAM Outdoors?? I mean, he could have easily chosen someone like hiswayfishing and get results like these:

Likewise, if someone were to choose an outfitter for hunting in Southern Utah, they could always choose someone professional like Mossback and get results like this:

                               BUT .....

What would be the fun of that when you could hang out with the guys from SLAM and have these experiences???

We enjoy good groceries...
we make sure we stay well rested...
we wear ghillie suits to push deer...
we wear hats with fake hair...
We pee out of the bottom of our shorts...
 We fish in long pajamas...
We dress like Rod Kimball, Stuntman Extraordinaire...
 We have PFG...
We help others...
We.................
Cody even catches fish...
We tow a Tahoe with a minivan... (after we have spent the night in freezing temps in the back of that same minivan)
We shoot all kinds of wild game...
 We hunt at "Jack's Spot"...
 We dress like Don Johnson...
We catch carp when we are tired of catching so many bass...
We rub elbows with Benny Spies...
We dress up to fish...
We make sure we have plenty of fire power on hand...
We load a minivan down to its capacity...
We get scop bit...
 We kill things occasionally...
 We wear tennis shoes hunting...
We pee out of the bottom of our shorts... (again)
And.... we dress like Rod Kimball again...

It's pretty clear to me who is having the most fun. How about you??...

(We would love to hear what you think about SLAM Outdoors and their wonderful staff - feel free to comment on your favorite SLAM moment, staff member or anything else you like about SLAM)

  3. After this post I am certain that our clientele is going to significantly increase. How could anyone resist coming out into the great outdoors with the SLAM staff? You did leave out a few things like tube steaks in Veyo, catching bras out of the lake, taking Mike Vick everywhere, running the locals out of the shooting range, and our rock throwing games.

I'm a little concerned this might put fuel on the fire for Nicole, but like Nick said (twice): "We sure do know how to have a good time."

Btw, you have my vote for post of the year.

  5. As a wife of one of the SLAM Outdoor members, I have to admit that I have been reluctant, at times, to allow my husband on these fine adventures with his loyal crew. However, I have come to the conclusion that it is far better to have my husband happy when he is home on occasion, than to never have him home at all. That being said, I'm a proud supporter of SLAM Outdoors! Because, I have all boys, one day when they're all grown, during hunting season, I will have an entire week of peace all alone:)Amen.

  8. Wow, what an awesome post! If that doesn't give a taste of what SLAM Outdoors is about I don't know what will. Anyone who views that and doesn't want to book a day or two with SLAM well let's just say they're missing out. If you want to book simply contact the secretary Matt at 435-313-5022. Also if you mention you are calling from this comment we can arrange some one on one with the President or VP, both are very approachable and know the SLAM ways better than any.
    Regards,
    PR Guy

  9. It looks like you guys have a good time! And do it in Style at that. Tennis shoes w/ camo, and a sleeveless jacket, and a vest and tie you can't get more classy than that. The experience is the best part of it. If you can have a good time (like you have stated plenty of times) nothing beats getting to the outdoors and enjoying a catch and kill things occasionally. It looks like you have a good time!

  12. I just feel that there are so many funny moments we are unable to get pictures or video of. Like the tire rolling down the mountain towards the SLAM outdoors minivan for example. I wish we had somebody that could just take pictures like they did for your triathlon or we could be the stars of a truman show type thing.

  13. I will commit to do better. To get our ratings up, we need more video footage to show our viewers that we know how to have a good time.
