Doing The Best We Can With What We Have

Doing The Best We Can With What We Have

Mission Statement

With the expanded use of social media today, it is easy to look at others' lives and wish you were them. There are a handful of fortunate individuals who get to hunt and fish for a living. There are others who's circumstances allow them to spend more time in the outdoors than most. The truth is.. the majority of us are average people. Average men and women who do the best we can with what we have. For us, every hunt is public land. Every hunt is DIY. We will most likely never own a Yeti, our Igloos will have to do. Never look down range through the lens of a Swarovski or wear anything adorned with the Sitka logo. We will never have a hunting magazine, never be the stars of our own hunting show, become prostaff members, or receive free gear. We have a limited number of days off each year, and limited funds to spend. This does not however crush our spirit or curb our enthusiasm for the great outdoors. We will take every opportunity we get to enjoy the Streams, Lakes and Mountains.

We do not criticize those more fortunate than us. Our hope is to appeal to hunters just like us. Those with limited time, limited assets, limited resources, marginal gear, yet, 100% passion.

Out Gettin' It Done .... Well, Sorda..

The Staff has been out and about in the last few weeks. Here is a little taste of exactly what we have been up to.

Nick took a little horseback camping trip up to the top of Pine Valley Mt.

Mike got a little fly fishing in on a nice Saturday near Park City.

Well Done Mike

 Then this happened:

I have been putting in for this Limited Entry Pronghorn for about 7 years. The DWR called and told me somebody surrendered their tag and that I was next on the list and it was mine if I wanted it. So I took it and am glad that I did. My Wife's Uncle, Brad Cottam grew up running cattle out there and knew the area like the back of his hand. He had been scouting a nice buck coming to a water hole at 10:30 Every morning so we wanted to get on him. We saw a few shooter bucks here and there but wanted to wait till 10:30. Well, he didn't show so we moved on. I spotted this lone buck a couple hundred yards off the road. We slowly backed out and tried to get behind him and close in on foot. Not the biggest goat out there but I was able to take him while mike and nick were there with me. Had him on the ground by about 11:30 opening morning. It was an awesome day and the Jerky is awesome too.. There is a video of the hunt coming soon!!!

Then, I had a muzzeloader deer tag.

Then, Mike had a Rifle Deer Tag so he and nick hit the hills. See....

Even though we like to get out and hunt, we still make sure we take time for the important things like our faith. There are actually 4 SLAM members present at this Sacrament Meeting. If you look closely, three of the four can be seen in this same pic.
We just may have found a new chip for our outings. Before, It has been Dirty Chips but now that Benny has some out, we just might have to make a change.

I moved my burris scope to my .270 for the Antelope hunt so wanted to get my flip-up sights shooting strait on the AR and shoot the Nylon .22 a little so I got out shooting by myself for a bit and had a great time now that the weather is cooler. And, I shot pretty well.
Shot the middle out of a pigeon at 100 yds with an old 30-30 open sights

Now our sights turn to our annual LOA Trip. There has been much anticipation for this years trip and it figures to be one for the books. It's comin' up quick! Stay tuned....

Hunting Season is Here!!

Well, we have had an unusually slow summer here at SLAM Outdoors. We are sad to report that we haven't had Doug out on the water since our spring trip to Powell. However... we have ALOT to look forward too!! In the mean time though, we have gotten out to do a few things.. lets recap...

We went out shooting on a hot summer day in St. George but it was a blast. Nick has acquired a new shooting rug.. It was a quick little trip out but oh so worth it and I think we all needed that!!

Just workin' on Douglas

We attended the annual Enterprise Rodeo again this year. Mike and I took 2nd in the Watermelon Race. We have some good footage I hope to get on here soon... It was a fun night with our families. Can't wait for next year.

I took a much need vaca south of the border down to Mexico and was able to cross off a bucket list item of mine. We went down to Cabo and did a little fishing with RedRum sportfishing.
 Headin' out early

I hooked into this Sailfish right off the bat. It was about a 1/2 hr fight. +/- 120 lbs. 6.5 ft long

Mark caught this striped marlin next

 Dorado
 Rone Metcalfe and his Dorado

And Finally... I can't believe the Archery hunt is upon us already. Me, Nick, Noah and Bill went up to Pine Valley the other night. It was SOOO good to get up there and in the woods.
 Noah... the little whippersnapper

Good comfy spot... Only does and fawns though

Then, Thursday night, we almost got the whole staff out to Mt. Meadow. Of course, we had to stop for a tub steak and a bev (the hunters special) in Veyo. We had a heck of a time and it was good to get all of us out there.

It's so nice to strap the boots on, toss the camo on and head out of town. Not too many things I would rather do... We have allot of hunting ahead of us.

Last night, Me and Cody went out Shooting for a bit... I Didn't do to good on getting a pic of him though..

Fall is the BEST time of year!! The Spring Trip is hella fun after a long winter but Fall is just a non-stop Man-a-thon. Hunting, Football, World Series etc.... It is already in full swing and SLAM will be right there every step of the way

2012 ARCHERY HUNT

We gave it our best shot this year.  We learned some things and I think our wives learned a little more about how much hunting season means to us.  They did a great job at taking care of the household while we were away.  It comes once a year.  We could have done a few things different.  I believe we did give it a solid effort.  The next string of pictures and videos will not show any bucks that were stuck with meat missiles from the SLAM Outdoors staff.  I will leave the option up to you whether or not you want to continue viewing the post.

This is Matt hunkered down opening morning.

This is the beginning of the trail we walked many times.

Candid shot of the secretary.

President's smiling face after he fired off a meat missile into a rump roast.

Brothers

This is about the time when our patience and focus started to diminish a bit.
The SLAM staff spent one evening enjoying a nice relaxing sauna.

Quinn with his prized rock chuck!
Check out that saucy nylon .22.

These next few videos tell their own story.
